(Lathyrus chloranthus) These flowers are spring embodied! Exquisitely curling tendrils (so many!), lush foliage, and brilliant lime green pea flowers. They don’t smell because they don’t have to. Perfection is sometimes quiet and disregarded. You, of course, are better than that, which is why you will sow these seeds and show the world that you, too, are resilient, appreciative, and lively. Incredible, the power of one plant.
5’ tall with constant electric green blooms and ridiculously profuse curly tendrils. Simply stunning in bouquets and your garden. One of our very favorites and a rare one to find this side of the pond. I cannot declare enough how much we love these! Around these parts, it stays pretty green year-round, but winter can be daunting. And soggy. And grey for just a little too long. With the spring, renewal! Sun! Short bouts of something akin to dry. In other words, some renewed hope ignites our damp hearts. I know it can seem like too much to attribute such joy to plants, but that’s precisely what I’m doing here, and I will not stop.

Growing Info

SOWING:

Direct seed early Spring, 10-12 weeks before your last frost.

Note: For uniform germination, we like to soak seeds overnight prior to sowing. Nick any seeds that do not swell, and then continue to rinse and drain (twice/day) until roots just start to appear.

Sow 6-8 seeds per linear foot, thinning plants to 6", in rows 3-4' apart.

FERTILITY:

Low to average. Tolerant to most soil types but prefer soil with a pH between 6.0-7 and are sensitive to acidity.

ADDITIONAL NOTES:

Frost-tolerant, preferring cooler weather and well-drained, sandy soil. That said, they grow well in many types of soil, including heavy clay. Avoid acidic soil.

Provide a trellis to keep them upright.

Pinch when 6" to encourage branching.
